The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Local Government Case Competition began in 2007 as part of the celebration of DHS’ 10th anniversary as an integrated department.
Graduate students from around the Pittsburgh region come together to solve complex human services problems. The multi-day design sprint uses real-world problems under simulated conditions to form actionable solutions while offering a forum to meet local employers. At the conclusion of the sprint, teams make a presentation to local industry experts.
The visual identity for the Case Competition includes a myriad of iconography linked together. Each year the event’s main task focuses on a new problem in the county. Problems can range from transportation to education. The identity brings all of these aspects of life together by visually connecting each topic. The look required ambiguity, as participants do not learn the topic until they arrive.
