2019

The mission of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services is to improve the health and well-being of people in the county by providing high-quality, comprehensive, and accessible programs.

Comprising six offices totaling a budget of over $1 billion and serving 200,000 people per year, the department is the largest agency of the Allegheny County government.

The department required a new identity unifying the many offered services under one cohesive visual look. The new identity provides a familiar and friendly experience while still maintaining authority. By implementing a new look, the several offices within the organization become unified.

The new identity includes a redesign of departmental collateral with a focus on maintaining credibility. Department letterhead, envelopes, reports, and presentations now carry a more formal look and feel. To better connect with end-users, public-facing collateral, including marketing and educational material, shows a friendlier, more informal side to the organization.

The update also improves user accessibility by meeting contrast ratio standards, passing standards for color blindness, and updating typographic styles. Elements, such as the seal, have also been redrawn for expanded legibility at smaller sizes.
